Thank you for answering my question about the Latin abbreviation, which is helpful.

I am researching the "Trachsel and Baumgart" families that are the focus in this discussion and I had found the baptism records (included with the first post) which mention the mother’s maiden name spelled differently. When I joined the discussion and made contributions, I didn’t mention my ongoing research for these families, so I thought it would be helpful to explain that this discussion was started to help answer my question about the discrepancy of the mother’s maiden name.

And I’m grateful for the many contributions - all of them are really helpful. Thank you very much to everyone!

I have summarized some of the contributed information that I think helps to answer the question about the mother's maiden name i.e. Barbara Baumgart (Bungart / Rungart):

1. There is the death record I found for "geborne Baumgart" (with no given name) for the year 1751 which says she was the widow of Niclaus Trachsel and died at about 60 years old (therefore born about 1691). I'll add that when I searched the death register (for the years 1727 to 1770), there were no death records for a "Barbara Bungart" or a "Barbara Rungart". One of the contributors commented previously, "As her given name is not mentioned the only way to confirm her connection is to exclude other possibilities ... Also Niclaus Trachsel must have died prior to 1751. Nicolaus Trachsel and Barbara Baumgart had children baptised between 1710 and 1720, and also 1727 - which would fit a mother born about 1691. Have you checked the baptismal register in this time frame - is there a Barbara?"

That question was answered by another contributor who found a baptism record for a "Barbara Baumgart", which was transcribed:
Abraham Baumgart von Kilchdorf u[nd] Catri Gerig haben nachfolgende Kind[er] taufe[n] laß[en]
1mus infans: Hans Rudi. anno 1684.
Testes: Amman Meÿer, Hans Rudi Christen, Adelheit Lori
2dus infans: Abraham den 16 Julÿ 1686.
Test[es]: Thommas Ochs, Baschi Friden (=Sebastian Frieden), Johanna Futer
3 infans: Barbara den 9 Febr[uar] 1690
Testes: Bändicht Trachsel, Barbara Wäber, Barbara Stäler

The third child "Barbara Baumgart" was baptized in 1690 and that is off by just one year to the estimated birth year for "geborne Baumgart" who died in 1751 and was about 60 years old. Note: The baptism register for Kirchdorf parish starts in the year 1709 and this baptism record is from "Taufen 1654-1751 (rekonstruiert)", and I think this record could very possibly be the correct one.

2. There is a death record in the year 1740 for a Niclaus Trachsel (again, I searched the death register for the years 1727 to 1770 and there was only one Niclaus Trachsel). The death year of 1740 is before the death year of 1751 in the record for "geborne Baumgart" who was a widow. Also, the death record says Niclaus Trachsel was 62 years old (therefore born about 1678) and that would make him about 12 years older than Barbara Baumgart baptized in 1790, and the age difference (if they were married) would have been possible.

3. The last piece of information is the symptom "Seitenstich" mentioned in the death record for "geborne Baumgart" and the symptom "Stich krank" mentioned in the death record for Niclaus Trachsel. I previously commented that, "It's interesting to know that Niclaus Trachsel and his wife Barbara "Baumgart" seem to have probably died from the same (or a similar) illness" and another contributor replied, "Quite possible. But it was not a side stitch as we know it from sports today. It was often the result of pulmonary tuberculosis, which was of course very contagious within the family". So, I think the symptoms (possibly caused by pulmonary tuberculosis, a contagious disease) mentioned in the two death records, adds a bit more information that possibly connects the record for "geborne Baumgart" to the record for "Niclaus Trachsel".

I think this information is adequate to confirm that the maiden name of Barbara Baumgart (Bungart / Rungart) is very likely "Baumgart". And I think the 1751 death record and the 1690 baptism record are likely to be the correct ones for the Barbara Baumgart who I have been researching. Also, the 1740 death record for Niclaus Trachsel is likely to be the correct one for Niclaus Trachsel, the husband of Barbara Baumgart.

Question: Do you think more research is needed to confirm Barbara's maiden name or is the information that has been contributed in this discussion adequate to answer the question?

Thank you for your help!

Debra

Edit: I'm adding a small summary of information for Niclaus Trachsel: his place of citizenship or residence were mentioned as "Jaberg" in several of the records listed in the discussion:

The baptism records for his children: three of records mention "von Jaberg", two mention "Jaberg" or "Jabg", and one doesn't mention a place.

The 1751 death record for "geborne Baumgart" mentions "Niclaus Trachsel von Jaberg".

The 1740 death record for Niclaus Trachsel mentions "zu Jaberg".

I think because the place of citizenship or residence were "Jaberg" in these records, that information helps confirm the records were likely for the same Niclaus Trachsel.
