I learned today that my grandparents were married in Geneva on 8.7.1923. But they were from Brazil, not Geneva. Would it be possible to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate? Where should I look for it?
The name of my grandfather was Gustave Peter Wilhelm Richers and my grandmother Anna Maria Schaumann. Her father, Henrique Schaumann, lived his last years in Geneva and died there. Would it be possible to obtain a copy of his death certificate?

The marriage in 1923 was in the then still independent municipality of Plainpalais. For the period in question, only the alphabetical directories are online, but not the deeds themselves. Therefore, it is best to ask at the Geneva State Archives, they have the duplicates of the marriage registers of 1923, also of Plainpalais.

If you know at least the year of Henrique's death, you can also ask there. Without knowing the year of death, you would have to look at the historical residents' registration, which I believe would be in the city archives.

Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply, which I only saw today, 2 years later. I discovered the website "Etat civil / Généalogie" and am trying to follow the instructions there to get the documents I'm looking for.
