Juillerat von Sornetan BE

Beitrag von astigg001 » Di 2. Jan 2024, 18:58

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I am trying to find out the ancestry of Denise Ida Juillerat, born 5 March (correct: November) 1921 in Tavannes, Bern. She died on 20 January 2017 in Bretzwil, Basel-Landschaft. I suspect she was a citizen of Sornetan. I do not know the parents' names.

I have seen that the earlier parish records in Tavannes are digitised but unfortunately the later ones are not.

urpsr. Titel: Juillerat of Sornetan in Tavannes BE

Unfortunately, both the date of birth and the date of death are still well within the data protection periods. If you are not a direct descendant of the person you are looking for, you would therefore need to obtain permission from the relevant cantonal office for a fee and consult the records on site. The details are set out in a special instruction leaflet (French version).

Are you sure she was born in Tavannes?

According to the Journal du Jura (Etat-civil de Tavannes ‒ Mars ‒ Naissances), there were no births on that date in Tavannes.

Thank you both for your replies. Denise Ida Juillerat is my wife's late grandmother, and sadly as we live in New Zealand, it won't be practical for my wife (or myself acting on her behalf with the appropriate permission) to consult the records on site.

I made a mistake with the birth date - Denise was born on 5 November 1921.

The only other information I have is based on what my mother-in-law recalls. Denise may have gone to school in La Chaux-de-Fonds; she mentioned connections to Moutier a lot when she was alive but we cannot say if that was her home town or Sornetan. Denise was the youngest of 11 siblings, many of whom died in childhood from pneumonia. Her known siblings were Isabelle, Fernande, Maxim, and Blanche. Fernande used to live in Delémont.

In the Swiss civil registry system, the key question is whether Sornetan is the home community (Heimatort, commune bourgeoise) or the birthplace (Geburtsort, lieu de naissance) of Denise.
Next - unless another user finds a corresponding newspaper entry of the birth - I would therefore recommend that your wife enquire at the civil registry office of the canton of Baselland about the requested data, with reference to the death in Bretzwil in 2017. Use their mail address for a first contact, rather than their electronic form. All the relevant data is recorded in their internal IT system (Infostar), in particular the two places mentioned above and the names of both parents. Your wife should also explain her direct descendancy from Denise and indicate whether Juillerat is Denise's maiden or married name. The information is subject to a fee, but the office always states the costs first before taking any action.

Just in case, this is a newspaper death notice for Denise Ida Alt-Juillerat (1921‒2017) : https://www.todesanzeigenportal.ch/?FAEl9PIw2NY87q

It looks like she was married to an Ernst Alt (1922‒1991) : Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Nummer 29, 5. Februar 1991.

Merci griffy, Ernst Alt - und damit auch Denise - hatten das Bürgerrecht der Gemeinde Maisprach BL. Sie wohnten ganz oben am Waldrand von Bretzwil auf dem Hof Kählen.

Info to New Zealand: this means that the family Alt-Juillerat is registered in the Familienregister of Maisprach.

Thank you both again. I'll get my wife to approach the Maisprach authorities and request the information on Denise Ida Juillerat, and hopefully find out her birth / home towns, as well as the details of her parents.

But be sure to use my link from last evening, which leads to the only and central civil registry office in Baselland at Arlesheim. Almost 20 years ago, the communities (as e.g. Maisprach or Bretzwil) had to deliver their civil registry documents on paper there and since then have had nothing to do with the civil registry system except for deaths and the residents' registration.
In the canton of Bern, however, there are still a few regional offices. In the case of Sornetan, the office would be in Courtelary.
