Hello to any other Wellauer researchers. I apologize for not writing in German or French.
I also am looking for Johan/Jan Ulrich Wellauer and his father.
I am interested in the origins of the name Wellauer: is it derived from a profession, a location, or some other fact.
Also, If I understand the moderator's posting, someone researched the family to 1643; do you have any advice on how to find this research, or how to reconstruct it?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Peter

Hallo Wim,

Hi Wim,
At the LDS FamilySearch.org site, I found the following entry:
Ulrich WELLAUER (AFN: 18XN-VTV) Pedigree
Sex: M Family
Event(s):
Birth: Abt 1648, Lustorf, Thurgau, Switzerland
Parents:
Marriage(s):
Spouse: Margaretha DEBRUNNER (AFN: 18XN-VV3) Family
Marriage: Abt 1670 , Lustorf, Thurgau, Switzerland
This looks promising as the father, or perhaps the greatgrandfather of Johan Ulrich Wellauer.

Unfortunately it is not known where these notes ended up - otherwise I would have mentioned it.

I have received jpgs of pages from 1726 and 1735 Bevoelkerungsverzeichnisse from Wetzikon, Lustdorf parish for my Swiss ancestors, but I need some help understanding the entries.
Is someone willing to explain them to me, please?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Peter,
I have some self taught experience transcribing German Swiss church records. Google Bruetsch Family History to look at my website and transcribed information. You can email me one of the jpg's and I'll give it a try. Having fun with genealogy, Walt

I have attached the document in my original email.
It is from 1726, and I am interested mainly in the Hans Adam Wellauwer family, but also the other Wellauwers because they are all probably related in some way.
My main questions are:
1. What are the meanings of the abbreviations in the lines?
2. Are the dates probably birthdates or baptism dates?
2. My generous source mentioned that some of the abbreviations may be related to catechism knowledge; if they are, which religious sect does this appear to be? If we can't tell, which was dominating in this area at the time?
3. Why do all the men in this family have the same first name?
Thank you again!

Your questions:
1. I don\'t know the abbreviations (in Latin) except \"leg\". \"Leg\" = legitimately born.
2. Normally the dates are dates of birth.
3. It was custom/tradition that the men had the same first name in the families.
Gruss

I have been searching in the family registers in Thurgau, and have a question. In the 1695/1700 register for Lustdorf, the family names are grouped by Latin phrases like "Classis quarta" and so on. Can someone tell me what the different Classis groups were used for? They clearly divide the towns or regions into groups, but is there more purpose than that? For example, my ancestral family, Steffan Wellauwer and Barbel Fuchs, lived in Classis Quarta, which included Wetzikon (pp. 339-340) in the register.
Thank you!

Hi Peter,
In larger parishes, the pastor usually divided his area of responsibility (and visits) into geographical zones (groups of houses, hamlets etc.), mostly starting with the houses around the church and very often with the household of the pastor himself at the very beginning.
Although I've never worked with the registers of Lustdorf, I would therefore strongly assume that the 'classes' have the same purely geographical meaning. How did he name the other 'classes' in your case? Only with ordinal numbers or also with geographical terms?

Peter D,
Thank you for your reply. I don't have the registers in front of me (I was using microfilm in Utah, but am now back home in Michigan), but I think the 'Classis' groups did have a geographic label with them. Though it was hard to read the Old German manuscript, that is what it seemed. I was just wondering if there was another reason for the numbered grouping headers, as it seemed redundant to me.

I have made several scans of old records, but need some translation, please.
Wellauwer Ulrich 1672 Wetzikon Sw baptism.jpg
In the Ulrich Wellauwer 17 March 1682 baptism, there is a notation that says something like "Nuptuals celebrated 6 August 1681" but I can't read the rest of the notation. Also, why would this have been added to the baptism? Because the marriage was less than 9 months before the birth?
Wellauwer-Hugentobler 1712 Wetzikon Switzerland marriage crop.jpg
In the Wellauwer-Hugentobler 1712 marriage, the bride is said to be from "Fraulide" but I'm not sure if I have this correct. What is the most likely town mentioned here? Is it also correct that the bottom line says that the bride is connected to the parish of Bussnang?
Wellauwer-Schuepp 1737 Wetzikon Switzerland marriage.jpg
In the Wellauwer-Schuepp 1737 marriage, what does the notation after the bride's name say? At the end it seems to say parish Lommis, but what does the whole notation mean?
Thank you!!

Hi Peter
in the first record the addition says: "Nuptias celebrarunt 6. August [1]671 mit Kränzli und Schäpeli, 32 Wochen nach der Hochzeit das Kind gekommen".
Translated that means that the couple celebrated the marriage in a form, which was restricted to a virgin bride (wearing a chaplet on her head). but 32 weeks later the child was born. So they were lying to the pastor and the people in the village.
Amlikon is a village west of Bussnang, which belongs to the parish of Bussnang.
the third record contains a geographical notation, which I am not familiar with, could be "us d[er] Gräsi [in der] Pfarr Filial Lommis". She came from that location in the parish of Lommis.
best regards, Rudi

Thank you, Rudi! I am inferring that Kränzli is the form and Schäpeli is the chaplet, roughly speaking.
Is that correct? I tried searching for some kind of definitions online, but could not find any.
Thank you again!
