GEDMatch?

My Hofmann (4th) cousin asked me if GEDMatch, which she has joined, was something common with German genealogists? She's hoping to get more DNA matches in Germany/Europe rather than just the USA. Is there a similar company or place where it is more common in Germany/Europe that would help her get more matches that are not american?

None of her immediate family, but she was saying the same thing when she signed up... "Hopefully none of my extended family are criminals." Now I know why she said that.

it does not even take criminals among extended family, just a DNA-match that some investigators, or investigation software, might suspect to be significant.

To get back to your question: GEDmatch seems to be not really common in Europe. More promising to
- start a new thread to adress folks that made DNA-tests of any organisation
- check for a match in persisting markers that indicate a common ancestry at least within two or three centuries
- finally compare the short-term markers, and, most of all, your family trees

If that gets you nowhere, just make up some illusive story. Nowadays, truth is less important than dedicated followers (= joke - or not?)

I think I'm going to have my 4th cousin make an account for herself so she can do what you're suggesting. She has all her data and it would be much easier for her to answer all the specific questions. I was just trying help her.
