Zesser / Zeisser Family in Alsace

Beitrag von Zan-Koprivnik » Di 9. Aug 2016, 11:35

Hello everyone! I hope writing in English is OK. I am a genealogist from Slovenia and I've been trying to reseach my Zesser / Zeisser family for a long time but without any success. I have a couple of questions, you will probably know better as you research this region.

Jacob Zesser is my direct ancestor and arrived to Krško, Slovenia (Gurkfeld, Krain) in 1792 where he is first noted in the Status Animarum book. He got married in 1800 at age 30 so presumably he was born around 1770. With him he brought a coat of arms and a family tree, the family tree was lost during WW2 because the family was sent to concentration camps but the sheet of paper with the coat of arms remained. I am posting the image of the coat of arms here. Based on that I can only presume that he came to Slovenia around 1790 from Alsace, perhaps as a soldier. I do not know. Gurfeld is also the area of Iliryan Provinces so perhaps his arrival could be connected to this. He was a shoemaker by profession but I can't find him in any register because most of them have been lost in time. That leaves me with very little information about him and his origin. I have a coat of arms and an approximate year and place of birth - 1770, Alsace. I have not a clue how to find him so I'm asking here perhaps if any of you might have an idea how I could locate him. Military records, Coat of Arms records?

Thank you for all your help.
