Finding vital records for non-citizens

Beitrag von Earnhart » Sa 29. Dez 2007, 00:44

I understand how to find vital records for Swiss citizens.
But I cannot find any information about those born, married or died in Switzerland who did not hold citizenship.
Is there a record of that event in Switzerland? Would the record be in the commune where the event took place or sent to the country where they were citizens?
Thank you!

Finding vital records for non-citizens

Since 1876 the modern Civil Registers are kept at the Civil Registry Offices - with two types:

Register A: all events taking place within the region covered by the office - be it citizens or foreigners.

Register B: events concerning citizens, taking place somewhere else.

If a Swiss citizen with different citizenship was involved, the event was reported to the responsible office (to be included in their register B) - but this was not required by law for non-Swiss (although these individuals may have sent documentation to their home countries).

So - if you are looking for records of any events involving non-Swiss, you have to consult the local sources - civil registers or church records.
