Hello! I am searching for information on my 2nd great grandfather and his family. I do not speak German, please forgive mistakes! I am using Google Translate.
Massimo (Max) Schaubeck.
Max was born 25 August 1870 in Wolnzach, Pfaffenhofen, Bavaria. His parents were Xaver Schaubeck and Martina Ostermaier.
Max married Josefa Agnes Degen in Luzerne, Switzerland on 05 September 1896. They lived in Luzerne Kanton where they raised their children. The only records I have of Massimo are from Switzerland, including Catholic church records. I have tried searching for records from or near Wolnzach but I have not found anything yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Michelle from Canada.

Michelle,
your reference to Catholic Swiss churchbook inclines Max was of that denomination. Wolnzach is part of Bistum Regensburg, which, unlike other Bavarian Dioceses, did not digitalize their stocks to access online. Thus, you probably won't find any of their records in the internet. The only way to check Wolnzach churchbooks is to make an appointment at Regensburg (even more complicated in Corona-days), and browse, using old-fashioned monitors, through dozens of micro-fiches.
You may order specific records at the archive, such as the birth record of Max (fees arise). To check further back on his ancesters, you will be recommended to hire some professional.
Schaubeck and Ostermeier families still live in Wolnzach. Without better alternatives, you could try to get in contact and ask around. Maybe some relatives that is interested in family history, or markers at the local cemetery?
Hopefully someone in the forum may have better news for you. Else, feel free to ask any of the limited help I might be able to give.

Re: Schaubeck aus Wolnzach, Pfaffenhofen
Thank you very much for the information. I do suspect Max was Catholic because he raised his family as such. It is one of the few clues I have to go on so I thought it might be worth mentioning. I did look for Wolnzach church records online and didn't find anything nearby, but I had hoped there were just somewhere else.
I'm afraid I live in Canada and I'm a student, so I am unable to make an international genealogical trip for another few years unforunately, and my first will likely be Switzerland.
Wolznach is considered part of Pfaffenhofen if I understand correctly, so those are the archives I would check? From what I see Wolnzach does not have its' own archives, but perhaps Bavarian archives would be better?
Thank you again for your help, I have many ideas on my next steps!

Re: Schaubeck aus Wolnzach, Pfaffenhofen
Lucky strike for you: Since Civil Registration was introduced in Bavaria as late as 1876, there was an order to compile churchbook duplicates to be delivered to government archives. Some of Wolnzach parish were recently put online by FamilySearch. I found Max (bottom of screenshot), guess you have a good chance to browse for his parents' marriage, or eventual siblings

Re: Schaubeck aus Wolnzach, Pfaffenhofen
It's a pity the duplicates don't get back too far in time, but you should find at least one generation back for both Schaubeck and Ostermeier families.
BTW, Max/Massimo's ways, from Bavaria via Luzern ?to Canada? might be interesting for others. Consider to deliver a brief family history some day. Good luck digging!
