Wolfgang Frederic Canoci ASIMONT

Hello,
I am researching WFC (Wolfgang Frederic Canoci) Asimont who was believed to be from Germany. He was very prominent in Asia especially Singapore, Malaysia (Borneo) and the Phillipines from the 1890's to the early 1900's.

WFC married Emily Burrows in Singapore on the 14 February 1899. They had several children:
John Kersey b. 1900
Ivy Rosine b. 1901
Alexandra Maud b. 1902
Francis Canoci b. 1904
Violet Beatrice Susanna b. 1907
Frederick b. 1910

John Ivy and Alexandra were attending school in Wales in 1911 and their younger siblings were living at Kinarut with their parents.

WFC had been in Borneo from as early as 1890 where he worked at the Segama Estate rubber plantation Darvell Bay. In the early 1900's WFC returned to Borneo where he set up a plantation for the Manchester North Borneo Rubber Co. at a placed called Kinarut south of Kota Kinabalu. He built a massive mansion there, the ruins of which were only discovered in 1990 during development works on the same land.

My husband is the great grand nephew of WFC Asimont's wife Emily. I am helping him and his cousins who are direct descendants to find out more about WFC. We do not know when he was born or exactly how he died. Some believe that he was interred after WW1 and died soon after. Others believe that he survived the war and died in Singapore of Spanish flu.

Any assistance regarding where I should look next for information of his birth and death would be appreciated.

no idea if the following is helpful to you.

There are 3 persons whose name is ASIMONT in the Brandenburg database at www.db-brandenburg.de who lived in the province of Brandenburg in the 19th century. I think Jean Fleury Asimont was a French soldier at Napoleon's times and stayed in Germany after the defeat of the French army.

Hello Willi,
Many thanks for your reply to my enquiry about the Asimont family in Germany. I cannot find any connection between Jean Fleury, Antoine and Dorothea and WFC Asimont. I think there must be one as there are not too many people by this name in the world. Thanks also for the link to the Brandeburg website.

If I ever find a connection I will definitely post the news here.

I dont know, if you are still looking for WFC.
My wife is a descendant of Johann Gottfried Asimont, who was the father of Friedrich Heinrich Wolfgang Asimont (1868-1917), who was probably known as Wolfgang Frederic Asimont Canoci.
If you are still interested, I can give you some more informations.

Thank you for you interest. I am still very interested in Asimont Canoci family. I have not researched them for years but would be happy to have anu information on the family. They connect to my husbands family from Malaysia.

It is not really fixed to you being a new user - you just have to have posted twice (this is a measure to make life more difficult for spammers). Now you have two posts - so you should be able to send private messages.

Another question is what information you want to post here. In general, the forum is a place to share information with other members - not find contacts for bilateral communication. However, we recommend to be very(!) conservative about "younger" data: definitely nothing about people still living! I personally don't publish info on people born after about 1920, and am reluctant with persons born after 1900. There may be other reasons not to publish older info in selected cases - but few selected cases .

Thats the reason, why I wanted to have private contact. To talk about persons born after 1900 is not good in the forum.
