Brüshaver in Biendorf
I have been helping a family member research his grandmother's ancestors from Germany, including the Range family in Retschow.
Christian Joachim Friederich Brüshaver (son of Joachim Heinrich Brüshaver) married Maria Christiana Henrika Range (daughter of Hans Joachim Range) in 1869 in Satow-Niederhagen. There is a baptismal record for a Joachim Friedrich Ludwig Range (born out of wedlock) in 1864 in Satow-Niederhagen and I think the mother is the same person as Maria Range who later married Christian Brüshaver. Also, the column for the father (in the baptismal record), mentions the name of Maria's future husband Christian.
Question: I can't figure out the information written in the column for the father from the baptismal record. Since it reads, "Unbekannt" (unknown), then continues to mention the name "Christian Joachim Friederich Brüshaver" (who I think is the same person that married Maria Range in 1869), what could the comment mean?
There is a baptismal record for a "Friedrich Carl Range" (born out of wedlock) in 1867 in Satow-Niederhagen, with the same mother's name, grandfather's occupation and residence of the mother, i.e. Maria Christiana Henrika Range Tagelöhner Tochter zu Satow, as the mother in the baptismal record posted below for Joachim Range. Unfortunately, the column for the father is blank and only reads "Unbekannt". I will post this record later.
I would appreciate a bit of help to finish my transcription of the baptismal record for Joachim Range. See the record below.
Thank you!
Debra

Re: Brüshaver in Biendorf
[Date of birth] October 23. [1864]
[Date of baptism] Octob[er] 30.
[Name of father] Unbekannt.
Als Vater hat sich angegeben Christian Joachim Friedrich Brüshaver [CJFB has declared himself as father].
[Note] Durch nachfolgende Ehe legitimiert [legitimised by later marriage].
[Name of mother] Maria Christina Henrika Range, Tagelöhnertochter [day-laborer's daughter] zu Satow.
[Name of child] Joachim Friedrich Ludwig Range, Unehelich [out of wedlock]
[Names of witnesses] Gevatteren
1. Maria Rüwolt, Tagelöhnertochter [day-laborer's daughter].
2. Elisabeth Range, Tagelöhnertochter [day-laborer's daughter].
3. Joachim Range, Knecht [farm hand]
Alle zu Satow.
So the entry about the father is a bit confusing. I assume "unbekannt" implies "unknown officially" (i.e. parents not married) - but CJFB has declared himself as father. With the next record (still before the couple got married) the father is just "unbekannt" - one would assume CJFB again, but this is not documented.

Re: Brüshaver in Biendorf
Thank you very much, Wolf for your answer and finishing the transcription - the information that CJFB has declared himself as father (rather than alleged to be the father) is what I needed to know!
Your assumption about "unbekannt" and the translation of the note (i.e. legitimised by later marriage) are also very helpful.
I had thought that CJFB could be the father of Friedrich Carl Range (born out of wedlock in 1867) and as mentioned before, I'll post this baptismal record later.

Re: Brüshaver in Biendorf
I want to mention that the 2nd and 3rd baptismal witnesses' names are "Range" - the same as the mother. I checked the names of her siblings and there is a Johann Heinrich Joachim Theodor Range (born in 1844) and an Elisabeth Maria Johanna Range (born 21 Dec 1849), who both immigrated to the USA in 1868, four years after the 1864 baptism. I think it's possible that these two witnesses are siblings of the mother, although, I want to point out that the witness Elisabeth Range would have been 14 years old (about two months shy of 15) at the time and also a day-laborer's daughter like the mother.Wolf hat geschrieben: Mo 24. Question: do you think a person aged 14, would be a witness?

Re: Brüshaver in Biendorf
I would appreciate help to finish the transcription/translation of the witnesses in the baptismal record for Friedrich Carl Range who was born out of wedlock in Satow-Niederhagen.
Thank you!
I'm quite sure the child is the half brother (and likely the full brother) of Joachim Friedrich Ludwig Range (son of Christian Joachim Friedrich Brüshaver and Maria Christina Henrika Range in the baptismal record above), because the mother's name, grandfather's occupation and residence are the same in both records. Unfortunately, in the 1867 record, the father's name is listed as "unknown"; However, records for CJFB and MCHR confirm that they were indeed "a couple" since they married in October of 1869 and not long afterwards boarded a ship in Hamburg (with their son JFLR) and immigrated to the USA before the end of that year. Furthermore, the 1867 Mecklenburg-Schwerin census (same year that FCR was born) shows that CJFB is single, living with his parents and working as a Stellmacher in Gerdshagen, so at least when the census was taken in December of 1867, CJFB is living just a few miles from Satow-Niederhagen where FCR was baptized in March of 1867. I think that CJFB is the father, because with these circumstances, I think it's unlikely MCHR would have another child in 1867 with a different man and then go back to continue as a couple with CJFB.
The 2nd image just shows the year and column headings.

Re: Brüshaver in Biendorf
This is the death record for Friedrich Carl Range (son of Maria Christina Henrika Range) born out of wedlock on 3 March 1867 in Satow-Niederhagen. I think that my transcription is correct (would appreciate any needed corrections) and just have a question about the last column heading:
What is the translation of "bei unehelich Geborenen der Mutter" in the context of the heading (the online translation didn't make sense to me)?
[Entry] No. 23.
[Date of death] Octob[er] 3. [1867]
[Date of burial] Octob[er] 6.
[Name of deceased] Friedrich Carl Range zu Satow.
[Birth place of deceased] Satow.
[Age] 7 Monate [months]
[Cause of death] Schwäche [debility or weakness]
[Last column heading] Name der Eltern (bei unehelich Geborenen der Mutter) des Verstorbenen.
[Name of parents] Mutter: Maria Christiene Henrika Range, Tagelöhnertochter [day-laborer's daughter] zu Satow.

This translation of the column heading makes sense as compared to the online one. Thanks, Wolf!Wolf hat geschrieben: Mi 7. Jun 2023, 09:03 Name der Eltern (bei unehelich Geborenen der Mutter) des Verstorbenen.
