I live in South Carolina in the U.S.A. My name is Fred Lionel "Danny" Dantzler IV. I have traced my ancestry directly back to Thomas Denzler of Zurich, Switzerland. Just today I discovered that Thomas' father was Oskar Denzler. I dont know any other information about Oskar. Can anybody help me with his date of birth? I really hope to trace my family back even farther than Oskar. Hans Ulrich Denzler or Dantzler was my great grandfather that first came to America. Thank you for any help.

everyone in Switzerland has a Bürgerort = citizenship, and the Familiennamenbuch der Schweiz = Swiss Family Name Book registers this Bürgerort. Denzler you find at

- you see, there were many of them, citizens in various places of Canton Zürich and you need some more informations to search in Switzerland.

If you have none about Oskar, what do you know about Thomas?

Hi,
maybe another helpfull advice would be to search in the 'Bürger Etat Stadt Zürich (List of people lived in Zurich)'. I got in the 1910 list a few people with your familyname. If you like I can mail it to you but be aware that it is in German. Another help could be to write a query to the City Archive.

They are very helpfull, but remember to put as much information in your query as possible.

As hhg has already pointed out, it would be necessary to find out if Thomas Denzler was citizen of the city of Zürich - or another community in the canton of Zürich. But equally important, if you are hoping for help, is the time you are talking about: did the people you mention live in the 19th or 15th century?

Thomas Denzler was my tenth great grandfather. He was born in 1590 in Hermikon, Dubendorf, Uster, Zurich. He married Elsbetha Winkler in 1613. He died in 1634. I want to find information on the Denzlers that were before him. Thank you.

Thomas is also an acestor of my husband. There is nothing to find before Thomas, the church records of Duebendorf/Hermikon burned. I checked other old documents. Could it be that your first ancestor in US was Hans Ulrich born 1704 or his brother Conrad born 1703? If yes, I am interested in information about the family history in America.
