Karthaus von Zürich ZH

Looking for information on Hedwig Maria Elisabeth Karthaus born October 13, 1843 and her parents. Her father was Karl Wilhelm Karthaus and he married Katharina Mohr. I have him being born on April 13, 1812

According to Familiennamenbuch the city of Zürich is the only place of citizenship for Karthaus: the family was originally German and gained citizenship in 1838.

In a thread on Bieri von Entlebuch LU it is mentioned that Karthaus were citizens of Schwamendingen. In 1934 Schwamendingen was incorporated into the city of Zürich - so both are correct: when Hedwig Maria Elisabeth Karthaus was born 1843, her parents were citizens of Schwamendingen, descendants with Swiss citizenship today will be citizens of Zürich.

It is fairly likely that the father was born in Germany - so you should try to get info on the granting of citizenship, which would tell you, where the family came from.

If they were naturalized in Schwamendingen, Evans should contact the Archives of the Canton of Zurich and ask for copies of the main documents produced in the course of this process.
Please indicate all data you already have and state that the familiy most probably got the citizenship of Schwamendingen.

Hello Cindy

Karl Wilhelm Karthaus, born Barmen 1810 (?), died 17.3.1850, lived in Lucerne.
He married in Lucerne 5.2.1838 with Maria Katharina Josepha Mohr, born Lucerne 18.3.1817, died Lucerne 29.6.1886.
Her parents were Jost Mohr and Rosa Schürmann.

Jost Mohr (1782-1853), forest official, son of Jost Mohr (1748-1823), member of the council (executive) of the city of Lucerne, and Anna Maria von Sonnenberg (1749-1782).
Rosa Schürmann (1794-1871), daughter of Anton Schürmann (1756-1808), goldsmith, and Catharina Salzmann (1764-1822).
