Buser im Kanton Zürich

Hello, apologies for not writing in German, I was never taught at school....

I am researching my family tree on my mothers side. Carmen Jackson (1922). Her mothers name was Marthe Buser. Marthe met my Grandfather Joseph during WW1 when he swam across a lake into Switzerland. Marthe was born circa 1890 in Zurich, she had three brothers Emil, Charles and Walter. Marthe had another daughter as well as my mother Marthe (c1920). I would appreciate any help in setting up this section of my tree.

Gesucht werden Angaben zu Martha Buser, verheiratete Jackson. Sie ist um 1890 in Zürich (Kanton oder Stadt?) geboren und hatte 3 Brüder: Emil, Charles und Walter. das Problem ist, dass Buser recht weit verbreitet ist - in den Kantonen Aargau, Basel-Landschaft und Solothurn seit vor 1800 - aber nicht im Kanton Zürich; in Zürich ist das älteste Bürgerrecht das von Thalwil (1912). Ist der Geburtsort von Carmen bekannt (Zürich kann ja die Stadt oder auch den Kanton meinen)? Dann sollte das dortige Zivilstandsamt Auskunft erteilen können.

Hi Keith,
the problem is that Buser is a fairly widespread name - since before 1800 in cantons Aargau, Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn - but not Zürich; the first citizenship in canton Zürich (Thalwil) is as recent as 1912.
Do you know the exact place of birth for Carmen (Zürich could mean the city or the canton)? If yes - the Civil Registry Office of this community should be able to give you some further info.

Thanks Wolf, my sister believes Marthe was born in Berne. Will repost on the Berne thread.
