Hohenrain church records are available online: surname registers are
Marriages 1834-1862
Baptisms 1834-1857
You'll find a "selection" of Joseph Webers there. Consequently it may be necessary to start one generation later: find the wedding entry of Josef Weber and Aloisia Krauer, which may give the names of their parents.

Hello Wolf:
As I viewed the image from your first link, it is very blurry and unreadable. Is there a way to see this more clearly?

Thank you again.
Patty Almond

Are you sure you viewed it with full resolution: when you open the link, possibly the resolution is reduced to make the entire scan to fit the screen. Left/top there are + and - icons to change resolution. On small monitors it's easiest to just download the entire page - then you can view it without loosing large parts of the screen to display other things.

Make sure to click on the image above, which will be displayed as thumb withing the text - to get it at full resolution (this is exactly what you get from familysearch - just a small segment of it).

Wolf -
Thank you! I did try enlarging and reducing but it remained blurry, so this helps. Also, can you tell me what the words are on top of the last column on the right and how to read the information listed below? I do see the name Josef Weber but I do not see parent's names. Is that in a different location?

Today is Thanksgiving (if you are not here in America) - so I can say Happy Thanksgiving and I am grateful for you and your help!

If the image remains blurred, this might be your internet connection: these images are "interlaced", i.e. load with low resolution (to give a first impression quickly) and then "update" with increasingly higher resolution in several steps. With a slow internet connection this may take some time: just test this - increase resolution, and if it stays blurred - just wait. If this is the reason, it is a nuissance - but at least you know what's the problem.

The header of the last column reads "Siehe Nummer" (see number): this is a surname register, not the baptismal register itself. If you look at the second entry, it reads Joseph Widmer (not Weber), living in Günigkon (modern spelling Günikon), with details on "fol" (page) 2, entry 12. You'll find a Joseph Leonz Weber further down (1838, writing is rather faint) and a Johann Joseph Weber (1845). In quite a few cases the given name is not listed (just "N") - also worth checking the full entries on the pages given.

This is very helpful again. But I'm sure I understand where to go to find his parents' given and surnames?

I am thinking the Johan Josef Weber is my ancestor. I see I should go to page 30 but the text under I cannot read. Would you be kind as to tell me what it says if you are able?

As mentioned before: with several Josephs to choose from, the wedding entry should be searched for. Marriages 1834-1862 lists the marriage of a Joseph Weber 1860. You find the full entry here:
09 Jan 1860 in Luzern(!)
Joseph Weber of Hohenrain, living in Steinhausen ZG, Senn (dairyman), born 03 Jan 1828 in Hohenrain[§] as son of Johann Weber of Hohenrain (farmer) and Anna Maria Petermann of Root.
Aloisia Krauer of Malters, living in Wohlhausen (where ?), Magd (maid), no further information.

[§] Here you find the corresponding baptismal entry:
03 Jan 1828, born in Günigkon (modern spelling Günikon)
Josephus, son of
Joannes Weber and Anna Maria Petermann
witnesses: Josephus Weber and Anna Maria Petermann [names of parents and witnesses are identical, but will not be the same people!].

I hope this describes better, how to search, and gets you started. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to do further research for you ... too many other queries in the queue.

Wolf:
Thank you so very much for your help. I surely did not expect you to do my research but the way you presented it, makes it very much easier!

All the best,
Patty Almond
