John Charles Markee born 1851 in Switzerland

Hello everyone,
I am looking for help in tracing my 2x Great grandfather John Charles Markee. On the 1891 English census he is shown as being born in 1850, in Switzerland, as a British Subject. His father was Joseph Markee. John was Catholic and married in Wolverhampton, England. He died in 1908, again in England.
I would be grateful for any help in tracing his parents, siblings etc.

Hi Sam,

Do you assume or even have evidence that the name was originally Markees, having their origin in Tartar, now part of the community of Cazis in Graubünden?

If yes, I suggest you to contact the State Archives of this canton since they have material on this family.

Or perhaps it is an anglicised version of Märki. Just a wild guess though...
