Hello
I am looking for the Family Veraart. They immigrated to Dortmund 22 Apr 1899. Their names are:
Christiaan Veraart born 2 Jul 1838 in Bergen op Zoom, NL married Maria Catrina Jansen 11 Oct 1864 in B o Z. She was b in Terneuzen, Zeeland 28 Sep 1838.

I need their death dates. I believe that he died in 1907 and she in 1910 (in Dortmund).

Two of their children immigrated with them: Cornelia Johanna Veraart and Cornelis Nicholaas Johannes Veraart. Cornelia b: 13 Feb 1875 (B o Z) d 11 May 1951 in Dortmund. I would like to know the name of her husband. I believe his last name was Boehmer. I think they married circa 1900 or 1901. They had 3 sons and a daughter. If possible I would like their names and dates.

Cornelis b: 1882 in B o Z married Maria Growe in 1908 in Dortmund. They had 14 children. Cornelis and three of his sons died as a result of the war where they were working in forced labour camps. If possible I would like to know more about this family.

Any suggestions about where I can find this information would be much appreciated.

Regards
Edith

Hallo Edith,

google for Stadtarchiv Dortmund, the civil registers listing the deaths you search for should be kept there.

They charge fees for looking up, so the more details you have to narrow the search, the better.

Good luck!

Hi Edith,

this could be of interest for you.

They have German Military Records of that time. If you get lucky the documents might reveal some interesting information.

Cornelis and three of his sons died

Hello Edith,

when there still is missing one son, you could fill the Formular on the Volksbund Homepage of one of the other Veraart and ask for him. [Tell everything you know about him]

Normally that will work faster, than a letter to the WAST. Answers from the WAST (or today Deutsche Dienststelle) will need a year or longer.

Good luck

Hi Edith,

like Christine mentioned the WAST takes a long time to answer. But I would like to advice you to take both roads. From my personal experience I can tell you that it is worth waiting. Some of the informations can be very detailed, for example: Last address, name of the parents, name of wife, military career etc.

Regards

Viktor

Hallo Edith,

Biene

Hello Biene
I hope you don't mind if I answer in English. I could with much angst do it in German. My husband's mother was Maria Adriana Veraart 1895-1995. She was the daughter of Hermanus Cornelis Veraart & Helena Johanna Laurina Jochems all born in Bergen op Zoom. The parents of Hermanus were Christiaan Veraart & Maria Catrina Jansen. In 1899 they immigrated to Dortmund, Germany. With them went also a daughter Cornelia Johanna and a son Cornelis Nicolaas Johannes. My mother-in-law Maria Adriana corresponded with Cornelia's daughter Maria Christina Jacoba. I remembering reading some of their letters. My father-in-law was Gerard Joseph van Dongen and this couple moved to Antwerp shortly after their marriage, so my husband was born in Belgium. He and the rest of his family immigrated to Canada in 1952. I became interested in the Dortmund Veraarts when I started doing the Veraart genealogy. I didn't know what had happened to them and where the family went from there.

I have managed to get the Death Documents of Christiaan & Maria Catrina from Dortmund. Also, I was able to get the Marriage Document of Cornelia Johanna & Diedrich Böhmer and I know that she died in 1951. I have 4 additional children besides Maria listed. For Cornelis Nicolaas my information tells me that he married Maria Growe and that they had 14 children. Is this correct? My information is also that Cornelis & 3 of their sons died during WWII. Is this correct? I would like to hear from you.
