Hello, I am searching for information about Frederik Bourgoin and Elise Bourquin (Bourquen), my GG Grandparents who immigrated to the U.S. from Bern. I think the Bourgoin family settled in Le Landeron, Neuchatel about the time of the French Revolution.

Here is what I have discovered so far:

Frederic Bourgoin left for the US in 1884 and his wife Elise Bourquin (or Bourquen) left for the US in 1885 with their 4 daughters whom I think were born in Bern, but I am not certain.
• Ida (born 1871)
• Amalie Elizabeth (born 7 January 1872)
• Alice (born 17 January 1875)
• Eliza Louise (born 2 February 1877)

The death certificate for Elise Bourquin lists her birthdate as 15 October 1850 in Switzerland, but doesn’t say where. Her father is listed as N. Bourquen and her mother as Marie Louise Hjelde. The death certificate says both are from Switzerland. I have not been able to find out any information about them beyond this.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance you might give me with this research.

Happy New Year!

Le Landeron is the only old (i.e. pre 1800) place of citizenship for Bourgoin in canton Neuchâtel. As the family emigrated after 1876 they should be recorded in the Civil Registry Office there. I recommend you contact them and ask
1) whether your ancestors can be identified on their register;
2) what you are expected to do to get a Familienschein.

In this forum only single families should be discussed in each thread. So - once you know more about the maternal line - please, start a new thread on Bourquin (19 different old places of citizenship in the French speaking parts of Switzerland). In cases of relation by marriage (like here) these threads may then be linked.
