Zurich Wills

Where can I find a will for Hans Gaspard Schintz who died 1912 in UK? He made a UK will but in it said that he had property in Zurich which would be dealt with under Swiss law. I assume therefore that he made another will in Switzerland. Any guidance would be most appreciated.

If Hans Kaspar Schinz (current spelling is without T) was a citizen (Bürger) of the city of Zurich, I suggest you contact the Archives of the City of Zurich:
http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/stadtarchiv

I'm not sure that they can find a Swiss will or copy of his will established in the UK, but they can certainly find him and his ancestors in the register of the citizens and his real estate property if he had one.

If he established a will in Zurich, you should know the responsible notary public. I would start to check the notary office of Zurich Altstadt. There is an index of all wills of this office (Testamente) between 1839 and 1950 in the Archives of the Canton of Zurich (code B XI Zürich-Altstadt 362.1-3):

According to the “Verzeichnis der Bürger der Stadt Zürich im Jahr 1872“, a Johann Caspar Schinz (*1837) was a citizen of Zurich. He was married to Anna Julie Bleuler from Feuerthalen (*1843) in 1864, and he had 3 children: Hans Caspar Ferdinand Max (*1865), Julie Lucy (*1866) and Susanna Dora Cäcilie (*1868). In 1872, the familiy lived in Liverpool. Maybe this can help you.

Many thanks for confirming that information. It is his Swiss will that I would like to find. Does anyone know how I begin the search?
