Ref. Margaretha von Wittmar ca 1550-1599

She is possibly born in Lubeck. She married Gerhard von Krogh born in 1550 in Lubeck. His father was Military officer Heinrich von Krogh born 1520 and his mother was Sophia Magdalena born von Vogelsang.

Margaretha von Wittmar is in some genealogical document said to be the daugther of Ludwig Graf von Oettingen and Margarethe Grafin von Lutzelstein ( 1 of theirs ca 9 children). She is then the only child of Ludwig von Oettingen with the family name von Wittmark. All the others have the name von Oettingen.
Could she be an illegal child ? Adopted ? other -- ?
She is also named to be married to Christoph von Platen already in 1574.
Her son Georg von Krogh is said to be born in 1580.

In other genealogical documents the parents to Margaretha are told to be unknown.
Do anyone know som information/ data related to Margaretha, her family and her life ? Where did they live ?

In a von Krogh Biography it is said that:
Gerhard von Krogh was member of the Bishops Council of Luneburg ( ca 1580-90).
In others her family name is written: von Witzmann
Could this give some information about Margaretha von Wittmar ?

Good afternoon Marius,

I am not so familiar with those named German regions. And without a copy of the primary source[s] and some additional secondary sources it only can be guessed why a name was written down differently.

Some of the reasons could include: Maybe there are two different families or that due to different language regions the name was spoken and written differently. Human error might also be a reason, for example the clergyman was not as literate as he should have been etc.

However, I would suggest to get in touch with one of the statearchives to find out more.
