Is the same surname Burri and Buri. There quite a few in Volken, ZH

Today, with spellings fixed, Buri and Burri are definitely different names. Before about 1800, however, spellings very often changed with time, or depended on the writer. It is therefore certainly possible that a Burri family of today has Buri ancestors (or vice versa).

On the other hand, both spellings are fairly common and wide spread - see Vorkommen Buri / Burri in der Schweiz. Consequently it is just much more likely that the Burri of Winterthur and the Buri in Volken are not related.

Laut Familiennamenbuch sind Burri seit 1590 als Bürger von Winterthur nachgewiesen.

Im Büchlein Zürcher Familiennamen wird als erste Nennung in Winterthur 1506 ein Hans Buri aufgeführt. Es wird vermutet, daß die Winterthurer Burri urspr. aus Weisslingen ZH stammen, wo sie seit 1463 nachgewiesen sind.
