Dorn is not an old Swiss surname: todays Swiss citizens with this name have immigrated from 1845 onwards. 19th century citizenships are
Augst BL 1845 (originally from Germany)
Olten SO 1870 (originally from Germany)
Zug ZG 1892 (originally from Austria)
plus more during 20th century (none in Thurgau either).
Biarr is not mentioned in the Register of Swiss Surnames - and doesn't "sound German" at all.
What is your indication that the family lived in canton Thurgau?

I believe the name Biarr was misspelled and may have been Baer.
I have written to BL archives, the most likely birthplace for my grandfather. They had no record of him.
My grandfather Hermann A Dorn said the came from Bern. His BD was July 15,1858. I have not been able to find his birthplace there.

I am searching for my grandfather Hermann Adolph Dorn. He said he was born near Bern on 15 July 1858. I believe his father name was Andrew and mother was Olga. He said that he served his mandatory service in the military before he emigrated to the USA around 1880.
