I am trying to trace my great grandfather Albert BERNER and family who I believe came from Zurich.
Albert BERNER born approximately 1863 in Switzerland (probably Zurich).
He was the son of Henry BERNER
Albert married Jesse CAMERON on 17 November 1888 in St Pancras, London. He was working as a valet in London. His father Henry is shown as deceased at this time.
Albert had a relative Bruno Berner who ran a Chemiserie (men’s clothes shop) at Strehlgasse 13 in Zurich in the 1950s.
Any information would be welcomed.
Many thanks
Keith

cannot find either Albert Berner or his father Henry (Heinrich) Berner in the citizen books of the city of Zürich for 1861, 1875, 1879 and 1885.
For the canton of Zürich the only citizenship of a person named Berner was a naturalization in 1892; the origin of that person was Rupperswil in canton Aargau.
Why do you believe he came from Zürich?
regards

Re: Albert BERNER and family
Thanks Rudi.
I have few facts. I know that Albert BERNER was born in Switzerland in 1863 (approx) and that his father was called Henry.
My reason for thinking they came from Zurich is based on the fact that I know there were relatives of his family there in the 1950s. I have some photos of my mother and father (now both deceased) visiting Bruno BERNER and his family at the BERNER clothes shop at Strehlgasse 13 in Zurich in the 1950s. The photo shows the shop with the name BERNER above the window and also the street address.
I have always been led to believe that the BERNERS were from Zurich - but this may not be the case. The trouble is, I don't know where else to look. I wonder if there are relatives of Bruno BERNER still living in Zurich - they may have more information.
Any suggestions welcome

you may try to contact the Stadtarchiv Zürich (city archive)
https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/prd/de/ind ... cure.html#
if you tell them what you know about Bruno Berner and his clothes shop, they might give you a hint.
good luck
