In a 1834 death record it reads: "... est décédé a son maison propre in der Kirchgassen à Sondersdorf ..." Can someone tell me what Kirchgassen means (I understand the rest)? Thank you!

Sondersdorf is situated in Alsace - a region which has belonged to Germany and France over time, with both languages common, especially for place names. Sondersdorf is a German name - and so is Kirchgasse: Church Lane. In other words "in der Kirchgassen à Sondersdorf" means the person died in the Church Lane (most likely where she/he lived) in Sondersdorf.
