Searching for the location of the village of Wildenitz in Mecklenburg. Believe it is between Schwerin and Rostock, maybe near Warnow. Johann Charles Theodor Tesch, b. 19 Jun 1831, immigrated to USA in June 1860, arriving New York City 5 July 1860 with Anna Wilh. Fried. Schroeder, b. 5 Jan 1833 and two children, Albert age 4, and Anna, age 1. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Walt,

Wildenitz a village between Rostock and Schwerin or near Warnow I could not find it.
But there is a Wildenitz near Neubrandenburg, which is also located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
This Mildenitz is a municipality in the east of the district of Mecklenburg Lake District in southeastern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany).
It is managed by Woldegk based in the same city.

(See http://www.windmuehlenstadt-woldegk.de/ also here)
(See also here http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mildenitz)

The municipality is located about six kilometers northeast Mildenitz of Woldegk and seven kilometers southwest of Strasburg (Uckermark).
North of the municipality are the Helpter mountains are the highest peaks in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the 179 m above sea level. Reach sea level.
The municipality is bordered to the east a Brandenburg.
I hope I could help them and it is the village of them are looking for.

Hi Claudius,

Many thanks for your schlolarly report on Mildenitz. This is most likely the place, with Wildenitz being a transcribing mistake from immigration records. A co-member of mine in the Martin County Fla. Genealogical Society, Dan Krause, will be using this information to access Mormon Church microfilm records to verify that his Tesch family is from this area.

And thanks for the World Connect Project information from RootsWeb.com. This will provide Dan with another connection for his research.

Best wishes for a Happy New Year, Walt :)

Hi Everyone,

Just a follow-up on this posting. Dan obtained the microfilm from the Mormons, and there were his Tesch's! So Mildenitz is the correct place.

Many thanks again to Claudius.

Best wishes, Walt
