Hello,

I'm new to this forum and am in search of information on my Swiss Grandfather's family named "Theiler".

My grandfathers' name is: Charles (Herman Frank) Theiler, Born: 18 February, 1888 in Rorschach, Switzerland

He Married: Frieda Wunderlin, Born: 26 February, 1888 in Bale, Switzerland; estimated marriage year 1920
Children:
Daughter: Clarissa Theiler, Born: 10 June, 1923 in Bale, Switzerland
Son: Charles Guido Theiler, Born: 14 March, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York

Parents are unknown

There were many siblings but I don't know any of their names.

My grandparents last known address was in Bale.

Chas, his wife and daughter came to America in July 1923.

Any help learning anything about my Grandfather's family would be amazing!

First of all: welcome to the forum !

Franz Hermann Carl Theiler was born 18 Feb, and baptized 20 Feb 1888 in Rorschach SG.

His father was Joseph Theiler, citizen of Wollerau SZ [which is why I have renamed and shifted your topic]. He was a "Handelsmann" [shopkeeper] in Rorschach [at the time].

His mother was Johanna Mannal - likely not the correct spelling - there are two plausible spelling variations:
• A Manall family from Austria gained citzenship of Untereggen SG in 1903.
• A Mannale family from Germany gained citizenship of Güttingen TG in 1907.
There is no proof, however, that Johanna Mannal was connected to either family. Her family is not an old Swiss family though.

Franz Hermann Carl Theiler married Frieda Wunderli (not Wunderlin) on 30 July 1921 - the birth record in Rorschach does not state where the wedding took place.

Theiler Johann Josef, Drucker, von Wollerau, in Goldach, ledig, Sohn des Franz und der Elisabeth Litschi, und Manal Maria Johanna, Kleidermacherin, von Langenargen, Württemberg, in Rorschacherberg, Tochter der Agatha Manal.

Im Amtsblatt des Kanton Schwyz steht auf Seite 614 unter den Eheverkündigungen:

Theiler Franz Hermann Karl, ledig, Kunstmaler, von Wollerau, in Basel, geb. in Rorschach am 18.02.1888, und Wunderlin Frieda Lina, ledig, von und in Wallbach AG, geb. in Wallbach am 26.01.1888.
