Hello,

I am seeking information about my great-great-grandmother: Isabel BISAU (or Bisang) from Luzern... Maybe born around Hergiswill dei Willisau. She was married to Michel Battig. They emigrated to Argentina, arriving on August 6, 1859.

I appreciate your help,

Ana Ubelarte

Hello

The family of Michael Bättig and Elisabeth Bisang, who left for Argentina, are in the FamilySearch tree.

They married on the 20th of October in 1851 in Sempach (marriage record). Elisabeth Bisang was originally from Nebikon. She was baptized on the 22nd of September in 1819 in Altishofen. Her parents were Josef Bisang and Anna Maria Bucher. The church records of Lucerne are online and available on FamilySearch.

Kind regards

Olivier

ANTON BISANG - Find birth (See Passport)

Good morning!!!
I'm Hernán from Argentina, a descendant of Antón Bisang.
Anton Bisang migrated to Argentina and settled in Humboldt, Santa Fe, Argentina, estimated to be in 1874 (he registered at the Swiss consulate in Buenos Aires). We believe he migrated to that area because Isabel Bisang de Bättig (there's a post about him - Michael BATTIG and daughter Katherina BATTIG) was settled in San Carlos, Santa Fe, Argentina, and they had some kind of relationship, which we haven't been able to prove on paper because we couldn't find Antón's place and date of birth.
Please attach your Swiss passport issued by the Canton of Lucerne, which states you are a native of Nebikon. Based on the date you state (21 years old), it would suggest you were born between 1846 and 1847. The problem is that the Argentine marriage and death certificates state an age (which could be due to a language issue) that is 4/5 years older. In his marriage certificate with Margarita Bernard in 1886, he states his age as 35 (according to the date/age in his passport, he should have been 39) and that he is the son of Anton Bisang and Elisabeth/a Bisang, both of whom are now deceased.
There are several Anton Bisangs born in Nebikon/Altischofen, but none in the possible birth years of 1846/47 or 1851/52, and none with the stated parents' names. I only found two Anton Bisangs whose mother's name was Elisabetha, and their birth dates don't match. Another possibility is that his place of birth doesn't match the place he claims to be from.
My theory is that Anton and Isabel Bisang de Bätig were related, and I'm trying to find the connection, and perhaps that way I can find Anton's place and date of birth.
I would appreciate it if anyone who understands Old German could translate the passport and obtain any information that would allow us to determine the date, place of birth, or any other relevant information.
Any information you can provide (or that anyone reading this can provide) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time.
Hernán

Swiss passports did not and still do not show the place of birth, but rather the place of origin (Heimatort, Bürgerort), i.e., the municipality that was responsible for the citizen in an emergency and to which he was always allowed to return (kind of local citizenship). So Anton may well have been born somewhere else. Can you upload the passport?

Thank you very much, Peter, for your prompt response!
I've attached the passport. I also created a specific post for Anton Bisang.
Any questions, please feel free to ask.
Best regards, Hernán

Hello Hernan

The decisive text in the passport is von Nebikon, i.e. Anton's place of origin was Nebikon. As usual (see here), his place of birth is not specified. Unfortunately, the passport control for the Willisau district did not begin until later. But to be on the safe side, ask the State Archives if they can still find anything.

The document is a combination of a travel document for itinerant craftsmen and a passport. Anton was a brickmaker by profession.

Peter (not Anton, sorry!)

Please, don't duplicate identical information in separate topics - see viewtopic.php?f=49&t=366#p906: we only discuss single families (defined by surname and place of citizenship) in a given topic. If there is a relation (e.g. by marriage) these topics can be linked to each other.

I have tried to sort this out now, partly by moving contributions, partly by deleting duplicate information.

Hello Hernan

If Anton Bisang retained Swiss citizenship until at least the time of his marriage and also reported the marriage to the Swiss consulate, the marriage in 1886 would also be recorded in the marriage register B of Nebikon (Eheregister B 1886). For the period in question, these registers are now kept in the Lucerne State Archives. Just ask the State Archives if they can find him there. All the relevant data would then be contained therein.
