Hallo Urs
Auf meiner Website habe ich eine Catharina Fausch geb. ca. 1820 mit ihrem Ehemann Georg Jegen und Kindern aus Seewis aufgeführt (s. Fausch im Nachnamen-Index auf URL:
http://heinrich.jegen.com/Second%20Site ... /index.htm)

Fausch in Seewis (also Aebli, Gansner, Lietha, Haag, Kasper)

I have reached a deadend at these Swiss ancestors. I would like to connect them to older ancestors in Seewis.
Hans Fausch (b. abt. 1779) with wife Sibilla Aebli (b. abt 1779, d. Oct 29 1847 in Seewis) had a son John Fausch (Mar 2 or 22, 1815 in Seewis, d. 1890). He married Anna Margaret Gansner (b. Nov 29, 1815, d. 1907) whose parents were Johann Gansner (b. Dec 11, 1782, d. 1858 in Iowa) and Anna Haag (b. abt. 1790, d. bef. 1846). I believe Sibilla's parents were Hans Aebli and Burga Lietha of Seewis.
As mentioned in the Seewiser Heimatbuch, John and Anna left Seewis in 1846 with sons Johnathon, John, and Dietegen, along with father-in-law Johann Gansner, so I assume Anna Haag had died before that. They settled in Zwingle, Iowa, USA, a small town with many other Swiss settlers.
John Fausch married Manga Kasper, (b. Apr 15 1862 in Seewis, d. 1908) whose parents were Rudolph Kasper and Manga Florine.
I have performed a DNA test, and interestingly, my purely paternal line seems to match many people named Stehli, another common name in Seewis.
My family changed the name from Fausch to Faust some time after the Civil War, then to Foust around the turn of the century.

First of all - welcome to the forum, jfoust !
Let me add an organisational comment, however: in the Swiss forums we only discuss single families (defined by surname and place of citizenship) in any thread (whenever this is possible) - but then all discussions on this family should be in the same thread. For this reason I have merged your posting with the existing thread on Fausch from Seewis; also - only Fausch should be discussed in this thread ... please, start new threads on the other families, if you want to discuss them. If families are linked, e.g. by marriage, the corresponding threads can be linked to each other.
Unfortunately Graubünden is not my area of expertise, and I cannot help with your actual quetions. I hope, others step in.

Thank you for your assistance!
I had mentioned the other family members in the hope of describing the exact family, as these names seem to be quite common in Seewis.

Sorry, if I wasn't clear enough

.
Obviously husbands and wifes can/should be mentioned ... otherwise it would be impossible to place links. What I wanted to prevent is discussions on these other families getting started here, as separating complicated threads is much more difficult and time consuming than merging two threads, should they belong to the same family.

Hello Urs,
I show a baptism for Hans Fausch on 16 February 1780 in Seewis born to a Chlas Fausch and Madlena Lieth who were married 3 Jun 1763. I also show a baptism for Sibilla Aebli on 12 Jan 1779 in Seewis born to Hans Aebli and Burga Lieth who were married 27 April 1764 also in Seewis. I hope this helps

Mod.: I have started a new thread Aebli of Seewis for further discussion of this family.

Thank you! I did not know of Chlas and Madlena. Your record comes from which church?
This is the first time I have heard the name "Chlas." Is it a common name?

Those records come from the parish register for Seewis. They have records back to 1646 and generally in good condition. Chlas is not the usual form of Claus or Clas in that area.

Bookey - I have some elementary questions. Pardon me if they are simple. What is the form of the records that you used? Microfilm? What other information do they have in them? What was the name of this church, and what religious affiliation was it?

The record I sent you is on microfilm and available to you at a LDS Family History center near you. Most of the people in the area around Seewis changed from the catholic to reformed religion in the 1600's. I serve in a FamilySearch Library and have access to the films from there. The records you want are on film 1192862, that contains the records for Seewis from 1646 until 1875 with births, deaths and marriages. The people you asked about are not of my family line so I don't have the births in any of my data bases. Good luck in your hunting and if I can help again let me know.
