Melchior Wirtz was born in the canton of Aarau son of the late Kaspar Wirz and Elisabeth Weber born Schwanenberger. I belive Kaspar had 8 children - 8 sons and 2 daughters. Melchior came to the UK and had 2 sons George (my grandfather) and Frank ? I am trying to gain any information that will enable me to start ? the family tree. Thanks
Vielen Dank!

Melchior Wirtz dob April 2nd 1860 Aarau
Hallo odball,
let's first try to sort out a few inconsistencies:
1. You write canton Aarau - which doesn't exist: there is a canton Aargau - with Aarau being the capital city. What exactly is the information you have, and what is the source?
2. You give two spellings - Wirtz and Wirz: if we are talking about an Aargau family, Wirz is most likely the correct spelling: they hold citizenship in several Aargau communities (but Aarau only since 1921) - so to have more info on their place of citizenship would be vital for an effective research.
3. Less important - just for the record - what about the number of children?
Final question (for now): do you know when Melchior left Switzerland? If he left after 1876 he will for sure be listed in the Civil Register of his place of citizenship (most likely also if he left before 1876) - but we would first have to determine his place of citizenship.

Melchior Wirtz dob April 2nd 1860 Aarau
Hello, Herr Wolf,
The source is a white document which I belive is some form of passport ? that was issed at that time. I belive the document was issued as you point out by the canton Aargau. I will check the document in a few weeks time - Thank you.
I also belive Melchior changed the spelling of Wirz to Wirtz as the English could not pronounce the name again I will check.
The number of children was also written in the document. The document is back in the UK as I currently work in Slovenia.
I am afraid I do not know when he left Switzerland. All we know is he came to the UK and went "into service" and died young. I know this is vague but all we have is this white document with the information that I have detailed, when I am next back in the UK I can if you like e-mail you a copy?
Thank you for the translation - Thanks again.
