Hi Andreas

Thank you for the link. In reading more about Berlin records I think it is not an easy task to find this birth

Guten Tag, Lorraine,
the "Standesamt" (Civil Registry) did not start its work in Prussia before October 1874. So you can only search in the old church books. No idea if the

Evangelisches Zentralarchiv in Berlin
Kirchenbuchstelle
Bethaniendamm 29
D-10997 Berlin

E-mail: eza@snafu.de
Internet: www.ezab.de

where they also keep old Berlin church books can help you.

On www.db-brandenburg.de I found the following which might be of interest to you:

H. D. Bamberger, Tabackshändler und Lotterie-Einnehmer [tobacco merchant and lottery agent], Potsdam [Berlin's neighbour town], Nauener Str. 16
(Source: Address book of Potsdam 1836)

Johann Peter Bamberger, parson:
1756 - 1762 in Berlin, parish of Friedrichswerder, Friedrichswerder I, church district: Berlin Stadt (City) I
1762 - 1780 in Berlin, parish of Dreifaltigkeit, Friedrichswerder I, Berlin-Kreuzberg
1780 - 1799 in Potsdam, parish of Garnisonskirche, church district of Potsdam I

Since this surname is pretty rare in Berlin and surroundings I can imagine that Johann Peter Bamberger can lead to your Esther Bamberger.

If or when you need further help let me know.

I'm sorry i didn't reply before. We have been travelling and i just saw your reply.
Thank you so much. This has been really helpful.

Since i first posted i have found that the father of Ester was Michael Bamberg(er). I'm not sure how reliable that information is.

The reason i am looking for Ester Bamberger is because a relative in 1910 wrote that my gg grandfather, Francis Louis Bamberger, born 1825 in Silesia (i don't know where) was a relative of Giacomo Meyerbeer. I have found that Ester married Liepmann Meyer Wulf in 1765 and they were the parents of Amalie (Malke) Wulf who was the mother of Giacomo Meyerbeer. I was hoping to find the parents and siblings of Ester which might eventually lead me to the parents of my gg grandfather.

It's all getting a bit difficult...

I am curious also about H.D. Bamberger of Potsdam-how does one obtain more information?

Kind regards,
Lorraine

Guten Tag, Lorraine,

have you already written to Evangelisches Zentralarchiv in Berlin? I think they can help you in some way since you know Esthers exact birthdate.

English is for many Germans no problem, and so you can write in English.

The following link leads you to the historical addressbooks of Berlin: http://adressbuch.zlb.de/
Maybe you will find some more Bambergers in one of them.

Feel free to ask me for further help if necessary.

Greetings from Köln (Cologne) to Australia,

Willi
