Richard Marquart fragt (deutsche Zusammenfassung weiter unten):
I'm trying to search my great-grandmother in Switzerland, but don't know where to start. I know she was a watchmaker and had a brother Maurice also a watchmaker and was born in 1837 in Switzerland. She married Georges Frederick Burlier, also a watchmaker in Colombier-Fontaine, Doubs, France. I have most all of records of my Bourlier family but all they say about Marie Plet is - clock maker, born in Suisse.
According to Familiennamenbuch / Répertoire des Noms de Famille / Surname Register Bure in canton Jura is the only place of citizenship for Plet - and has been since before 1800.

Historisches Lexikon der Schweiz / Dictionnaire historique de la Suisse / Historical Dictionary of Switzerland:
keine Erwähnung / non mentionné / not mentioned

Bibliographie "von Moos":
keine Erwähnung / non mentionné / not mentioned

So - what next?

1. If Plet was a watchmaker family (over several generations) the friendly people at Musée International d'Horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds might be able to help you: although they are situated in canton Neuchâtel, they will likely also have some information on canton Jura, or will at least know whom to ask there.

2. The Civil Registry Office responsible for Bure is the one in Porrentruy. Although Marie Plet was born well before 1876 (when these offices were set up) and emigrated to France (likely also before 1876) there is still a faint chance. Without their parents' names the chances will be dim, however, but still worth a try.
1. Musée International d'Horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds;
2. Zivilstandsamt Porrentruy, das für Bure zuständig ist.

Wer kann weiterhelfen?

Bonjour,
