I have a von Rotz family - starting with my great grandmother Christina Barbara von Rotz, born in Sarnen in 1851, Her father was Joseph (b. 1807) mother was Maria Josepha FANGER. The father of Joseph von Rotz was Nicolaus von Rotz (b. 1761) at Kerns, wife Franziska Maria BURCH.

My Enz line betings with my Great Grandfather Franz Peter Enz of Giswil, (b. 1858). His father was Nicolaus Enz born in 1819 at Giswil. His wife as named HUSER.
Then: Peter Joseph, Ignaz Francisus Enz b. 1792, Giswil. Wife (EBERLI) then Peter Antonius Enz b. 1764, Giswil - wife (BUCHER) then Johannes Casper Enz b. 1736 Giswill wife named (FREDRICH), then Jospeh Anton Enz b. 1705 wife named (BERCHTOLD), then Joan Melchoir Enz b. 1669, wife named (JACOB).

I am asking for any information about these two families - additions, corrections. etc.

I noticed this posting, but could not connect to the line yet. In all probabiliy we re related. There were two Enz families that went to the Imperial Valley of southern California and have established a successful diary and farming business there - along with a number of other familes from the Giswil area. There is, in fact, a large and active Swiss lodge there.

Thomas Gmur has repled to me posting with some very valuable information and I'm anxious to learn more from him.

enz sieht (noch) keinen Zusammenhang der beiden Enz-Linien - trotz der Vermutung, dass es irgendwann einmal gemeinsame Vorfahren geben könnte.

Im Imperial Valley (Süd-Kalifornien) haben sich zwei Enz-Familien niedergelassen und erfolgreich Milchproduktion betrieben - zusammen mit zahlreichen weiteren Familien aus der Gegend um Giswil. Insgesamt gibt es dort eine grosse und aktive Schweizer Gemeinde.

Die Enz-Vorfahren im anderen Thread suche ich für die Nachfahren der Familien Mathis-Enz und Enz-Rohrer im Imperial Valley, Südkalifornien. Ich kann bis jetzt auch noch keine Gemeinsamkeit sehen, allerdings kann ich die Enz-Linie meines Cousins in Amerika nur bis ca. 1800 zurückverfolgen. Danach ist es leider nicht möglich, in den Kirchenbüchern den richtigen Enz zu finden, da seine beiden Vornamen damals sehr häufig waren. Neben den Namen gibt es nur noch den Hofnamen (Kaiserstuhl) als Hinweis, doch vor 1780 oder so tauchen in den Kirchenbüchern keine Hofnamen mehr auf.

I'm wondering who you are. I have opened my thread about Enz-ancestors for helping the descendants of the families Mathis-Enz and Enz-Rohrer in the Imperial Valley, South California. I can't see any connection to your Enz-Line, but I could only trace back the Enz-Line of my american Cousin until about 1800. In the years before 1800 it is impossible to find the right person in the churchbooks, because both his names were very common. All I know about him are his names and the name of the farm where he lived, but before 1870 or so there were no names of the farms mentioned in the churchbooks.

I am the 8th great grandson of Johan Joachim ENZ (b. 1634 in Giswil) and Maria Elisabeth Rohrer (b. 1646). My mother was Edna Pauline ENZ (b. 1919 in Washington State, USA) Her father and my grandfather, Emil Edwuard ENZ, was born in Giswil in 1881 - he came to the USA from Giswil at the age of 8 with his father, Franz Peter ENZ, and his mother, Kristina Barbara von Rotz. The family were timbermen and worked in Northern California and Western Washington as loggers. My grandfather, Emil, died in 1971 in Portland, Oregon USA.

The ENZ families of Imperial Valley, California were from Giswil according the the shipping mannifests at Ellis Island, New York. I am confident that these Enz families tie into mine, but I do not have enough information yet to establish the link. I will do all I can to help you in that endevour.

Die N.N. Huser heißt Katharina, wurde 1821 in Stans geboren und starb 1906 in Giswil

Zufallsfund im Taufbuch von Flühli LU: Am 29.06.1819 wurde ebenda ein Niklaus Peter Paul Enz getauft, unehelicher Sohn des Franz Ignaz Enz von Giswil OW und der Katharina Marbacher. Beim Namen des Kindes ist der Name Niklaus unterstrichen.
